At LUIZA we are committed to supporting education in the area of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Given that the half-life of knowledge in machine learning is estimated by some leading experts to be around 3 months, we believe that it is absolutely crucial to concentrate on building meta-skills (such as paper reading and implementation, discussion, team work, etc.) of our students in addition to teaching them hard skills – otherwise what we have taught them is almost guaranteed to be out-of-date by the time they are out of school.

In that effort, LUIZA, supported by project KEGA 008ŽU-4/2021, has organized several workshops this semester, targeting the following activities and topics in 3I0A203 “Machine Learning”:

  • 28th Mar. 2023: Offline reading followed by a flipped-classroom-format discussion regarding the trends in generative AI; discussion of team project topics.
  • 13th Apr. 2023: Discussion regarding team projects.
  • 25th Apr. 2023: A hands-on tutorial on exploratory data analysis.

In an effort to better integrate our teaching efforts with other unis, we are planning a further pilot worshop later this year with talks from several young researchers across Slovakia. We believe that these and other novel forms of teaching are key to engaging and preparing students for work in a rapidly advancing field such as machine learning.
